WOMEN’S RESERVATION BILL.
This refers to Kalyani Shankar’s Article, “Women’s Reservation Bill facing hurdles”, published in the ‘Free Press Journal’ dated 19-6-2009. It cannot be denied that women population of India is more than a half. It is, therefore, desirable that at-least one half of MPs in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, an one half MLAs in the State Legislatures, and an one-half of Members of the Local Bodies, such as, the Municipal Corporations, Zilla Parishads, and Village Panchayats, proportionately representing every Class or Community according to its numerical strength and drawn from every nook and corner of the country, must be ensured in the proposed Legislation. This will be in consonance with the Fundamental Right to Equality guaranteed to women also under the Indian Constitution without any discrimination based sex, caste, creed, place of birth, etc. as required.
